Across the country there thousands of disabled people who need daily care from NHS nurses, and now find themselves abandoned! As NHS Trusts struggle with the rationing of services, PPE and suffer from 1 in 4 nursing staff being at home due to the need to self-isolate, or indeed suffering themselves from Covid-19, decisions are being taken to withdraw care from the disabled self-isolating in their homes! The spectre of deaths amongst the disabled community rising sharply, together with the swingeing cuts to their benefits the Tory Government have been implementing repeatedly since 2010; may will result in far more number of deaths than the 120,000 it is accepted have died as a result of welfare cuts! On Twitter today, just two of the disabled people being abandoned by their local NHS have pleaded for help via the social media platform:
Once again the risk to the mental health of those alone and at home in isolation is going to be one facing the disabled in the same way as the major cuts to their state aid enabling them to live; has done. The loss of life to suicide amongst the disabled has never clearly been addressed, leading one commentator on social media to write: "The Government's policy on the disabled is no less than coerced suicide through their slashing of social security for the disabled and the callous testing regime being implemented in order to remove their benefits!" With the lack of testing and ventilators in the UK, the situation for disabled people is near on catastrophic! This can't be more empthasised today with the issueing of ethical guidelines by the Royal Collage of Physicians, reported elsewhere on this website But with these decisions taken by NHS managers and NOT clinical staff, it seems the question of ethics doesn't apply to the disabled, elderly and infirm in the community!
